  • Player: Besart Topallaj, Hartlepool United defender.
  • Action: Recalled by parent club Bromley.
  • Confirmation: Announced by Hartlepool United (Pools).
  • Status: Transfer officially confirmed today.
  • Context: Loan spell at Hartlepool ends.

The versatile defender joined Pools in July after longtime left-back David Ferguson left the team. Ferguson made nearly 250 appearances at Victoria Park before signing a new contract with Gateshead during the summer.

Topallaj had a great launch to his Pools career as a sect- reverse in Simon Grayson’s 3-5-2 style. Topallaj was a member of the Bromley team that gained promotion from the National League in 2024.

Topallaj was a regular under Grayson, and in September’s hard-fought victory over rivals Gateshead, the Kosovan defender scored his first goal for Pools.

But under Nicky Featherstone, who preferred a flat back four with Cameron John as left-back, the 24-year-old lost his spot in the Pools squad.

The former Millwall, Dagenham, and Sutton player made his final Pools appearance on the bench during the loss to Yeovil on December 6. After that, he was completely left out of the matchday roster.

Featherstone told Radio Tees Sport during the week that the left-back will be returning to South London for “personal reasons” after missing many games due to illness.

“Bes has been ill quite a bit over the last two weeks,”

he said.

“There’s a plan in place for Bromley to call him back, they’ve got a recall on the 2nd, and then I think he’s going out on loan somewhere else.

Personal reasons, his missus is pregnant and far away and he wants to be closer to home.

He’s one that I would have loved to keep around, but sometimes family and personal issues are bigger than football. For him, it was important for him to get back home.”

When does the recall take effect and for how long?

No specific effective date or duration for Besart Topallaj’s recall has been detailed in Hartlepool United’s advertisement or Bromley statements. Loan recalls in English football generally take immediate effect upon club announcement, ending the player’s vacancy for the loan side from the coming match or training session.

The original loan was until January 2026, so the recall terminated it precociously without a pronounced end date for Topallan’s return to Bromley.

No public commentary from Bromley director Andy Woodman on the reason for Besart Topallaj’s recall have surfaced in sanctioned channels or media reports. Hartlepool United’s evidence statement thanks Topallaj for his benefactions without representing any explanation from Bromley, suggesting it may be a standard loan clause activation amid team requirements.
