Lewisham Donation Hub (LDH) is preparing to host a unique and creative fundraising initiative aimed at supporting thousands of people across South East London who are facing hardship.
The upcoming event, titled Small Works, Big Impact, is a “secret” postcard auction featuring original artworks donated by a diverse range of contributors. The collection includes pieces from both first-time artists and internationally recognised names such as Julian Opie, Danny Rolph, Chloe Barnes, and Martin Rowson.
LDH supports over 36,000 people each year who are experiencing acute hardship, and the auction is designed to help sustain the organisation’s essential services. All proceeds from the event will go directly toward funding the Hub’s ongoing work within the community.
The auction brings together local artists and supporters, each contributing postcard-sized artworks. Despite their small format, these pieces are expected to play a significant role in raising vital funds while celebrating creativity and artistic expression.
Often described as the UK’s first “everything bank,” Lewisham Donation Hub redistributes pre-loved and surplus goods, including food, clothing, homeware, and essential equipment. By doing so, it helps ensure that usable items are not wasted and instead are passed on to individuals and families in need.
A spokesperson for LDH highlighted the growing demand for their services, stating:
“Supporting over 36,000 people each year, we see first-hand the growing need in our community. This auction is a powerful way for people to contribute while celebrating art and creativity.”
The event comes at a crucial time for the organisation, following the recent securing of an extension on its lease at Place Ladywell. This development ensures that LDH can continue operating as a vital support system for families, individuals experiencing homelessness, people seeking sanctuary, and those affected by the ongoing cost of living crisis.
With Small Works, Big Impact, Lewisham Donation Hub aims to combine art, community, and compassion—demonstrating how even the smallest works can make a meaningful difference.
