Lift Bexleyheath Praised by Ofsted for Teaching Standards

The whole community at Lift Bexleyheath are proud of their recent inspection report by Ofsted, who visited the school in April. Inspectors highlighted that students at Bexleyheath are well behaved, have a “positive attitude to learning” and are “well taught”. Ofsted no longer issue one word judgements and instead grade across a five point scale from ‘exceptional’ to ‘urgent improvement’, with ‘expected standard’ the new benchmark for high-performing schools.

Lift Bexleyheath has achieved the ‘expected standard’ across the board, in achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, personal development and wellbeing and Sixth Form.

Students attend school regularly and build “very positive relationships” with staff, who are noted as treating pupils with “respect and kindness” and know the students well. The school is “calm and orderly”, with well behaved students who arrive punctually to school and lessons. Pastoral care for students “is a strength”, say inspectors and pupils with special education and/or needs and disabilities (SEND) achieve in line with their set goals.

Over the last three years, students have achieved in line with national expectations at GCSE level and teachers “know their subjects well”. Teachers check pupils’ understanding in class by promoting debates and discussions during lessons, to strengthen their understanding. Students are “well prepared for life after school” and access a wide range of information about careers, apprenticeships and work experience opportunities. In Sixth Form, inspectors highlight the range of subjects students can study, including economics and cyber-security.

Rubeka Luthfa, principal at Lift Bexleyheath said:

“I am delighted to share this report with our community. Ofsted have recognised how much we support and nurture our students and help them to their very best and leave our school well prepared for their futures. I would like to thank my whole staff team and the community for their support as we continue to improve at Bexleyheath.”

Hannah Fahey, regional education director for Lift Schools said:

“Very many congratulations to Ms Luthfa and her team for this very positive report. I am thrilled to see the whole school performing in line with the new benchmark for expected standard. The whole community should feel proud of their commitment to continuous improvement in line with Lift’s mission. I am excited to work with school leaders to build on the many successes in the report and address the areas for development for the students served by Lift Bexleyheath.”
