A Borough pub has been temporarily renamed “Coach Tuchel House” as South London joins in the excitement over England’s World Cup run.
The Coach House at The George, off Borough High Street and opposite Borough Market, has changed its name in a football-themed tribute to England manager Thomas Tuchel after the Three Lions reached the semi-finals. The renaming is part of a wider wave of London venues marking the tournament with playful temporary name changes and match-day celebrations.
The pub sits inside The George, London’s last surviving galleried coaching inn, which gives the stunt a neat link to the wordplay behind “Coach Tuchel House”. Its setting near one of South London’s busiest food and drink districts makes it a natural spot for football crowds and visitors following major sporting events.
The promotion also reflects how local pubs have become part of the city’s World Cup atmosphere, with several London venues advertising live screenings and late openings for England games. In Borough, the temporary rename adds a bit of humour while keeping the focus firmly on a recognisable local landmark.
