This morning, January 6, the plane was scheduled to take off from Biggin Hill Airport, which is close to Bromley.
The private jet is seen trapped on the greenery alongside the runway in photos shot at the scene, with multiple emergency response teams and cars around it.
At roughly 11.20 a.m., a witness said they saw it while passing by on a bus.
He thinks the aircraft, which had the tail number D-ISCV, was on its way to Geneva International Airport in Switzerland.
A spokeswoman for the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said:
“This morning, the AAIB was notified of a serious incident involving an aircraft that was departing Biggin Hill Airport.
An investigation has commenced and enquiries are being made.”
A request for comment has been made to Biggin Hill Airport.
What caused the canopy detachment on Spitfire G-BMSB?
The AAIB set up that the cover detached because the frontal side door was left open before departure, which stopped the cover from engaging rightly in its rail and latching duly.
The pilot, fairly low- hours on type, was detracted during pre ‑ flight medications and did n’t close the cockpit side door before takeoff. With the door open, the cover sat out of its track so tailwind during the takeoff and original rise got underneath it, sliding it back until it separated from the aircraft in flight.
Until the AAIB’s final report is released, details similar as the precise cause, driver, and any contributory mortal factors are generally limited to brief original statements from the AAIB or the field.
