In a season defined by resilience, belief, and relentless intensity, the Oasis Academy Shirley Park Sixth Form Men’s Basketball team have made history by winning the AOC League title in the programme’s inaugural year.
From the opening tip-off in October to the final buzzer in March, the squad delivered a standout debut campaign, consistently competing with pride against some of the strongest sixth-form basketball programmes in the region. Week after week, Shirley Park demonstrated quality, discipline, and competitive maturity beyond their experience level.
The season featured a series of defining performances, including dominant away victories, strong defensive displays, and composed fourth-quarter finishes. Key wins over Garth Hill College Cobras Academy, Brighton, Hove & Sussex Sixth Form College, Chessington AoC, and Holy Trinity Storm II highlighted the team’s consistency and depth. Crucial road victories further underlined their ability to perform under pressure.

A defining feature of the championship run was the team’s response to adversity. After narrow defeats against strong opposition, Shirley Park repeatedly bounced back stronger and more unified, ultimately finishing the season in peak form to secure the top position in the league table.
Beyond the trophy, the achievement marks the foundation of a developing programme built on high performance standards, structured player development, and a professional culture.
Head Coach Justin Robinson, former Great Britain international and professional player, reflected on the achievement:
“To win a league title in our very first year is something I’m incredibly proud of. It speaks volumes about the players, their commitment, and the level of work they’ve put in. This success shows the quality of the programme we are building here at Oasis Shirley Park — and this is only the beginning.”
Looking Ahead: Trials Now Open
Following their championship success, attention now turns to the future of the programme. Trials are currently open for students interested in joining the Sixth Form Basketball squad for the upcoming season.
