Dwayne Fields, adventurer, TV presenter, and Chief Scout congratulates Thamesmead volunteers

The 6th Royal Greenwich Scout Group have opened in Thamesmead due to demand from children and young people aged 4 to 14 years who want to have fun, try challenging activities, get outdoors, and take part in adventure.

They have had an active year enjoying time away camping, a trip to Legoland and are going to Disneyland in 2027. Scouts offers over two hundred activities from abseiling and coding to drama and water-zorbing. When 70% of young people spend most of their free time on screens, this precious time away from technology is more important than ever.

Dwayne Fields, adventurer, TV presenter, and Chief Scout said

‘’I’m incredibly pleased that the 6th Royal Greenwich Scout Group has opened. This means we will now have more young people in Thamesmead making friends, building their confidence, and gaining skills that will prepare them for life and work. When I was young, as quite a shy kid, I remember walking into my local Scout meeting place and getting such a warm welcome. I found people who believed in me, and that helped me believe in myself. This set me on a path to adventure – taking me to Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands and even the North Pole. What made the difference were inspirational volunteers who became role models for me. I’ll also never forget the kindness and friendship of the other Scouts. Now I’m so pleased that more young people in Greenwich will now get the same chance I did – to discover their talents and find their place in the world. A massive thank you to everyone at the 6th Royal Greenwich Scout Group. You’re making all the difference to young lives and bringing people together’’.

In a recent poll 94% of Scouts said they had developed useful skills, 95% said they’ve tried activities they haven’t tried before and 85% said they are happier since joining. Whether it’s hiking, building robots, or launching a social action project, the 6th Royal Greenwich provide children with a safe, supportive place to grow.

Meetings take place at The Moorings Social Club, Arnott Close, SE28 8BG on a Monday evening. Whether you have a young person wanting to go on an adventure, or you’re an adult wanting to help create these adventures – drop Debbie an email at debbie@6RGScouts.uk to find out more.
