  • Location: London Borough of Lambeth, various roads.
  • Timeline: Throughout January and February 2026.
  • Purpose: Essential works and maintenance carried out.
  • Affected Areas: Multiple streets scheduled for closure.
  • Duration: Temporary disruptions during specified months.
  • Status: Planned closures announced for residents.

There are listed road closures in Brixton, Herne Hill, Clapham, West Norwood, Norwood, Tulse Hill, and Streatham that motorists should be apprehensive of.

As Landsdowne Hill in Tulse Hill will be closed for nearly three weeks as Southern Gas Networks( SGN) performs conservation, the maturity of the closures are anticipated to last a day or two.

Harpenden Road in Tulse Hill will be closed for many hours on the evening of January 28, and Tremadoc Road in Clapham will be closed for three days while Openreach works.

Other impacted roads are Ferndale Road in Brixton, Lambeth, and Norwood Road in Herne Hill, which will be closed for many days in January and February while Network Rail performs conservation.

Using one.network, which offers real- time updates on road closures, construction, and diversion routes, the Original Democracy Reporting Service( LDRS) has created a list of all the impending road closures.

To help significant trip dislocations, residents should plan their passages in advance.

Road closures in January and February

  • Network Rail will close Ferndale Road (Brixton) from January 21 to January 23.
  • Network Rail will close Ferndale Road (Brixton) between February 7 and February 9.
  • Pomfret Road( Brixton) From February 16 to February 17, the openreach road will be closed.
  • Network Rail will close Croxted Road( Herne Hill) between January 14 and January 15.
  • The Thames Water road will be closed on Norwood Road( Herne Hill) from January 28 to January 29.
  • Openreach road check on Tremadoc Road( Clapham) starting on February 25.
  • Thames Water road will close on January 28 near Harpenden Road( Tulse Hill).
  • Landsdowne Hill( Tulse Hill) From January 15 to February 3, the SGN road will be closed.
  • Knight’s Hill( Norwood) From January 26 to January 27, the Thames Water road will be closed.
  • Hitherfield Road( Streatham) From February 3 to February 4, the Thames Water road will be closed.

Will closures affect cycling and pedestrian access?

Most planned closures in Lambeth for January- February 2026 prioritize rambler and cyclist access where doable, though some full restrictions apply during peak workshop.

Lambeth Bridge southbound check from February 10 maintains path and insulated cycle path open 24/7, with temporary business lights replacing roundabouts; A23 Streatham Hill junctions use signage for diversions avoiding crosswalk blocks.

TfL machine precedence schemes at Ardwell, Barrhill, Tierney, and Telford Roads allow cyclists through with advance signage per MUTCD norms, though Villa Road and Sail Street mileage works put full closures banning bikes; no broad rambler/ cyclist bans reported.
