  • Location: Wandsworth borough, across various estates.
  • Council: Wandsworth Council reaffirming long-term strategy.
  • Focus: Building stronger, sustainable communities borough-wide.
  • Investment: New council homes and estate upgrades.
  • Goal: Enhance housing and community sustainability.
  • Status: Strategic commitment publicly reaffirmed recently.

Wandsworth is making investments in brand-new residences and estate upgrades that provide the borough with enduring assets. These residences lessen the need for expensive short-term lodging in addition to paying for themselves through rental income. Wandsworth is currently avoiding an extra ÂŁ3.7 million in temporary housing expenses annually as a result of increased preventative efforts.

Compared to many other stock holding authorities, Wandsworth’s Housing Revenue Account, a ringfenced fund devoted to council housing, is in a far stronger situation. The council is able to maintain vital investments in existing houses while pursuing ambitious plans for development and regeneration thanks to its excellent financial situation.

The Homes for Wandsworth project recently celebrated the completion of its 500th new council home, marking the halfway point toward the borough’s commitment to provide 1,000 new homes for locals. This is a significant milestone.

Structure on this instigation, the council has blazoned a major agreement with Battersea Power Station to make 200 new, high- quality council houses inside the 42- acre masterplan of the development, adding the number of options available to families in need of safe, nicely priced casing.

Aydin Dikerdem, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:

“Investing in new council homes is one of the most powerful tools we have to tackle the housing crisis and strengthen our communities. Every new home means a family moved off a waiting list and into a secure, comfortable home.

And it also saves us money in the long-term, delivering a public asset and reducing expensive temporary accommodation costs. It’s an investment not just in buildings, but in the future of Wandsworth.”

When taken as a whole, these programs demonstrate Wandsworth’s long- term, strategic commitment to guaranteeing that each and every person has access to a high- quality, safe place to call home.

Which specific estates will receive improvements first?

Wandsworth Council has linked Farnborough House, Lennox Estate, and Balham Hill East as the original estates entering advancements under its ÂŁ561 million casing investment plan through 2026, fastening on critical repairs and resident ballots for rejuvenescence.

Farnborough House in Tooting leads with a structural workshop starting Q2 2026, including new roofing, energy-effective windows, and collaborative heating upgrades to cut bills by 25. Lennox Estate near Clapham Junction follows, targeting damp remediation and availability ramps alongside 150 new council homes on conterminous garage spots.

Cabinet approvals in January 2026 fast- track tenders, icing completion by March 2027 ahead of larger schemes like Winstanley and York Road( 2,500 homes). Resident involvement via ballots guarantees continuance vacancies.
