A Richmond resident is preparing to take on the iconic London Marathon next month to raise funds for refugees building new lives in the UK.
Hui Jiang will be running in aid of charity Breaking Barriers, which supports refugees into meaningful employment. He hopes to raise ÂŁ2,000 for the cause.
The 2026 London Marathon will take place on Sunday, 26 April. Well over 1,100,000 entered the ballot for a spot on the race, and around 50,000 are expected to take part.
“I’m thrilled to be running the London Marathon for the very first time — encouraged (and gently pushed!) by my son, Austin,”
said Hui.
“Even more exciting, I’ve been selected to run on behalf of Breaking Barriers, an incredible charity that helps refugees build meaningful careers and rebuild their lives here in the UK.”
Refugees are around three times more likely to be unemployed than people born in the UK, due to the many barriers to employment they face, from a lack of UK experience to language differences and even discrimination. Through one-to-one advice, guidance, education, and training and support from the business world, Breaking Barriers helps refugees overcome these challenges, enabling them to build a stronger future.
Hui continued:
“My goal is simple: finish the 26.2 miles and raise £2,000 to support Breaking Barriers’ vital work. Every donation, big or small, will directly help refugees access training, career support, and life changing opportunities. Knowing that the funds I raise will make a real difference is keeping me going through every tough training session and will motivate me every mile on race day. “I’m now halfway through my training plan and feeling strong. I completed a half marathon last Sunday, and I’m excited to keep building up the miles as the big day approaches. I’d love for you to be part of this journey with me. Please donate and help me make an impact!”
