Southwark (South London News) August 27, 2026 — Mohamed Sherif, 54, appeared at the Central Criminal Court on August 27, 2026, charged with murder following the fatal fall of 31-year-old Kerry Ann Goodbrand from a residential window in south-east London.

As reported by Emily Pennink, Press Association Old Bailey Correspondent, the court heard during a preliminary hearing that emergency services were alerted to Rowcross Street, in the Old Kent Road area of Southwark, at approximately 2:50 pm on Friday, August 21, following reports that a woman had fallen from a height. Upon arrival alongside the London Ambulance Service, officers located Ms Goodbrand suffering from fatal injuries, and she was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 3:00 pm.

Following initial investigations on site, police allegedly linked the fatal incident to Mr Sherif’s home address. As reported by Emily Pennink, Press Association Old Bailey Correspondent, forensic examination of the scene revealed blood beside a window and located one of the victim’s shoes resting on the windowsill of the flat.

Appearing before Judge Simon Mayo KC via video-link from HMP Thameside, Mr Sherif spoke only to confirm his identity during the short hearing. As reported by Emily Pennink, Press Association Old Bailey Correspondent, Judge Mayo KC remanded the defendant into custody, setting a plea and trial preparation hearing for November 12, alongside a provisional three-week trial date commencing on May 24 next year.

Prior to the Central Criminal Court appearance, local policing commanders addressed the community regarding the investigation. As reported by the Metropolitan Police Press Bureau, Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing in the local area, stated that

“our thoughts are with the woman’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Bond added that

“officers are working diligently to establish the full circumstances surrounding her death and members of the community will see an increased police presence in the area while enquiries are conducted locally.”

Metropolitan Police officers confirmed that specialist officers continue to support the family of Ms Goodbrand. Detectives have urged anyone with relevant information or concerns regarding the incident to contact the police or provide details anonymously via Crimestoppers quoting reference CAD 4316/21AUG26.

What is the Background to the Rowcross Street Investigation?

The preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey follows a series of swift investigative steps undertaken by the Metropolitan Police Service since the incident occurred on Friday, August 21. Emergency services were initially dispatched to the residential block on Rowcross Street, located off Old Kent Road in SE1, following urgent calls to the 999 service reporting that a person had fallen from a multi-storey building onto the street below.

Following the arrival of paramedics and police officers, life-saving efforts were unavailing due to the severity of the trauma sustained, leading to the rapid establishment of a crime scene across Rowcross Street. Forensic officers subsequently secured the perimeter, conducting examination of the external pavement, the building façade, and the flat associated with Mr Sherif.

On Tuesday, August 25, Metropolitan Police officers officially charged Mr Sherif, of Rowcross Street, with one count of murder. He was remanded in police custody prior to an initial appearance at Croydon Magistrates’ Court later that same day, before the matter was remitted to the Central Criminal Court for full crown court proceedings.

The police investigation remains active as homicide detectives seek to reconstruct the events leading up to Ms Goodbrand exiting the window, analyzing forensic material retrieved from the scene, CCTV footage from surrounding streets, and witness statements provided by local residents.

How Might This Legal Development Affect the Local Southwark Community and Court Proceedings?

The advancement of this high-profile murder case to the Central Criminal Court impacts several key groups, ranging from the immediate local residents in Southwark to the broader legal process.

For the Southwark community and residents living along Rowcross Street and the Old Kent Road corridor, the ongoing criminal investigation maintains a visible presence. The allocation of additional patrols, as outlined by senior officers, aims to provide reassurance to a neighborhood affected by a violent incident in a residential space. Local residents can anticipate continued police activity as door-to-door enquiries and scene reconciliations proceed ahead of upcoming court dates.

For the family and legal representatives involved, the establishment of formal court timelines brings the case into the structured framework of the English criminal justice system. The designated plea and trial preparation hearing in November will require the prosecution and defense to set out key legal arguments, while the provisional trial date in May next year ensures that forensic, medical, and witness evidence will be meticulously scrutinized in front of a jury over a three-week period.
