One of enmost renowned architects, Sir John Soane, created a hidden crypt beneath the old cathedral.
South London bands Floating Poets & The Kanz, Kitty Churchfield, The Callbirds, and Alex Keevill of The Microdance will perform at Rock the Crypt.
As part of the Church’s 200th anniversary celebrations, the event is a part of the Building Beyond Project, a call for funds to support church restorations.
Soane constructed three structures in London, including The Crypt. One of the most important heritage assets in Southwark, it is Grade 1 listed. Tower Bridge is one of the three Grade 1 listed structures in Southwark.
During The Blitz, two bombs struck St. Peter’s Church while locals sought refuge in the Crypt. Unfortunately, 67 people lost their lives that evening, while numerous others were hurt.
Tickets are reasonably priced at just £5, but as part of their early bird offer, they are currently only £2.50 due to a 2-for-1 promotion.
You can choose to donate an additional donation to the church at the point of sale, which will go toward the reconstruction project.
