Protests linked to student unrest in India have spread to several UK cities, including London, Manchester and Glasgow, as campaigners and diaspora groups voice solidarity with students demanding action over exam irregularities and education reform. The demonstrations come amid unrest in India itself, where a major youth-led movement has grown around allegations of exam leaks and police action against protesters.

In London, hundreds of members of the Indian diaspora gathered outside the Indian High Commission in central London on Monday evening, according to reports, to back the student movement and condemn the police crackdown in New Delhi. Similar rallies were also reported in Manchester and Glasgow, with organisers saying the protests were coordinated as part of a wider international show of support.

The movement in India has been linked to allegations around the NEET medical entrance exam, with protesters saying exam irregularities have undermined confidence in the system. Reports say the campaign intensified after claims that a “guess paper” circulated before the exam closely matched the actual question paper, followed by arrests and a decision to hold a re-examination.

UK demonstrators have framed their protests as an issue of education justice rather than party politics, arguing that the concerns raised in India reflect broader anxieties about access, transparency and accountability. Organisers in London said the demonstrations were meant to stand with students in India who have been pressing for reform and for those affected by the controversy.

The protests have also drawn attention because of the scale of the movement in India, where clashes were reported during the “Chalo Sansad” march and both protesters and police personnel were injured. Campaigners say the unrest has become one of the most significant youth-led movements in India in recent years, with support now extending beyond the country’s borders.

For South London readers, the London rally is likely to resonate with communities linked to India’s student and diaspora networks, as well as with residents following debates over policing, protest rights and education policy. The demonstration also underlines how political and social movements in India are increasingly being echoed by communities in Britain’s major cities.
