A man has died after a shooting outside a busy south London pub, in an incident that has sparked a major Metropolitan Police investigation and left residents on edge.
Emergency services were called to Landor Road, near Clapham North station and The Landor pub, just before 10pm on Monday, 10 August, following reports of a shooting. London Ambulance Service said it was alerted at 9.59pm and dispatched an ambulance crew, an incident response officer, paramedics in fast-response cars and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance.
Paramedics arrived within three minutes but, despite their efforts, a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released and his next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.
By Tuesday morning, a forensic tent remained in place on Willington Road close to the junction with Landor Road, with officers visiting nearby homes to seek doorbell and CCTV footage.
Multiple residents told local outlets they heard several loud bangs shortly before 10pm. One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said she initially thought the noises were fireworks but realised after the first two shots that something more serious had happened.
Another resident, Sam, said:
“It was shortly after 10pm and I heard lots of sirens, and I heard bangs – I think it was five or something… And then I said ‘do you think they were gunshots?’ … now I’m horrified.”
The Met has not yet confirmed the victim’s age or name but is treating the incident as a murder investigation. A large police cordon covered part of Willington Road and the area around The Landor pub on Tuesday, with forensic officers working to secure evidence.
Detectives are expected to appeal for witnesses and anyone with mobile phone, doorbell or dashcam footage from the area around 10pm on Monday to come forward.
The shooting comes amid a series of violent incidents in Clapham over the past year. In July 2026, a 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed on Tremadoc Road, leading to multiple arrests and murder charges. In September 2025, a double shooting on New Park Road left one man dead and another injured.
Local campaigners and residents have repeatedly called for more visible policing and youth support services in the area, citing concerns over knife crime and gun violence.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Residents with relevant footage from the Landor Road and Willington Road area around 10pm on 10 August are encouraged to share it with officers.
